Ecoedge MDF

ECOEDGE mouldings and door jambs are made from premium moisture resistant MDF manufactured here in New Zealand and are the largest primed range in the country.

Produced from FSC® (Forestry Stewardship Council) certified timber, ECOEDGE MDF offers discerning specifiers, builders, and home owners an environmentally sound choice when building or renovating.

ECOEDGE MDF mouldings and jambs are designed for interior use only. They should not be used in situations where they will be exposed to water, prolonged humidity or high temperatures, e.g. showers, saunas, bathrooms and laundries.

When ECOEDGE MDF mouldings are to be used in direct contact with concrete or masonry, a damp-proof course must be used.

Please refer to our storage, fixing, painting and finishing sections for further details.

SPP ECOEDGE MDF … part of every home.

ECOEDGE MDF mouldings and jambs, both pre painted and natural must be stored in a dry environment, protected from moisture, direct sunlight and excessive heat. Store on flat surface 150mm above the ground, supported every meter along the length of the product.

In addition, mouldings, sarking and flooring profiles should be acclimatised to their surrounding environment for at least 48 hours prior to installation.

ECOEDGE MDF mouldings can be nailed, glued or installed using a combination of both nails and adhesives.

  • Nailing: 40 – 50mm finishing brads are recommended. Ensure fixing is to a minimum depth of 25mm into the framing timber.
  • Adhesives: Mouldings can be glued using most commercial brands of adhesives.

All joints should be mitre cut and glued during installation. For best results we recommend mouldings are installed using a combination of nailing and gluing.

Un-Primed ECOEDGE MDF mouldings and jambs

  • Fill nail holes and any indentations with an acrylic interior filler and lightly sand smooth.
  • Apply one coat of acrylic interior sealer or acrylic interior undercoat, allow to dry and sand smooth as required.
  • Lightly sand and wipe with a damp cloth to remove all dust and grit prior to applying top coatings of paint.
  • Apply 2-3 coats of premium water-based enamel, lightly sanding after the first coat if required.
  • For best results, apply paint before installation with a brush or roller. Avoid using paint sprayers particularly if
Diluting paint with water. Excess moisture will cause furring and swelling of MDF wood fibre.
  • Some minor shrinkage can be expected so products such as tongue and groove panelling are best painted
Before installation (at least one topcoat) to avoid lap lines (exposed unpainted join line).
  • Water-based sealers and undercoats can cause grain raise (furring) when applied to raw unpainted MDF.
Ensure a light sand before applying second and subsequent coatings.
  • Paint any cut ends with sealant and topcoats to avoid moisture uptake (swelling).
  • Allow at least 12-24 hours between water-based paint coatings to ensure all excess moisture has dried out thoroughly.
  • Do not dilute water-based paints as this can cause swelling and furring.
